Ableton Setup (Windows)

Difficulty: Moderate

1. Load a VST.

Troubleshooting:

  a) If you have VSTs installed but none are showing up, see below for troubleshooting steps.

  b) If you don't have any VSTs installed, SynthMaster is a good one to start with.

2. Connect the Nova with the included USB cable.

3. Open Ableton preferences by going to "Option" -> "Preferences..."

Click the "Link Tempo Midi" tab, and make sure "USB A" is present, and has the "Track" and "Remote" boxes checked, and that *no* control surface is set.

4. Play the Nova by holding a button down on the fretboard, and tapping the touchpad at the same time. Notes should now play through the loaded VST.

More:

  a) For the lowest latency, download and install ASIO drivers and select in "Preferences" -> "Audio".

  b) See SynthMaster Windows for an example of how to map the Nova's touchpad to a VST.
